"ALJAMA" Ancient songs of the Mediterranean. The new album by Claudio Merico and Giulia Tripoti (Karkum Project) born from the musical program "Sefarad".
The album "Aljama" by the artists Claudio Merico and Giulia Tripoti, produced by Karkum Project (
www.karkumproject.it), is the result of research, study and concerts around Italy, started in 2018.
It comes to life from the musical program "Sefarad" (
www.sefarad.it) and it is a temporal and geographical journey that, starting from the songs of the ancient Sephardi, Christian and Muslim communities of the Iberian peninsula (Al Andalus), travels along the Mediterranean to then land in Turkey, ideally following the migrations and diasporas of peoples over the centuries.
The initial focus, therefore, is centered on the ancient Iberian communities, which coexisted for many centuries, and then followed their migrations in a temporal path throughout the Mediterranean (as in the case of the Sephardi diaspora and the expulsion of the Moors from Al Andalus) up to to Turkey.
The name "Aljama'' indicated the Arab and Sephardi minorities still present in the Iberian peninsula after the fall of the Arab Empire.
The disc is the result of musical experiences, in which there is no lack of artistic and personal aesthetic nuances, with a vision in some ways modern and not necessarily philological, which aims to make these wonderful sounds its own. The atmospheres range from purely melodic and meditative moments to others that are more rhythmic and engaging.
From Sephardi Romances to Cantigas de Santa Maria, up to Andalusian Al-Ala Music, in perfect harmony with the meeting of cultures, religions and peoples, which for centuries has characterized the history of the "Middle Sea".

Il disco "Aljama" degli artisti Claudio Merico e Giulia Tripoti (Karkum Project) è il frutto di un lavoro di ricerca, studio e concerti in giro per l'Italia, cominciato nel 2018.
Il lavoro, prende vita dal programma musicale "Sefarad" ed è un viaggio temporale e geografico nel Mediterraneo che, partendo dai canti delle antiche comunità sefardite, cristiane e musulmane della penisola Iberica (Al Andalus), approda in Turchia seguendo idealmente le migrazioni e le diaspore dei popoli nei secoli.
Il focus di partenza, dunque, è incentrato sulle antiche comunità iberiche, che per molti secoli convissero, per poi seguirne le migrazioni in un percorso temporale per tutto il Mediterraneo (come nel caso della diaspora sefardita e della cacciata dei mori da Al Andalus) fino alla Turchia.
Con il nome Aljama si indicavano le minoranze arabe e sefardite ancora presenti nella penisola iberica dopo la caduta dell'Impero arabo.
Il disco è il frutto delle esperienze musicali, in cui non mancano sfumature artistiche ed estetiche personali, con una visione anche moderna, che mira a far proprie queste meravigliose sonorità.
Le atmosfere spaziano da momenti puramente melodici e meditativi, ad altri più ritmici e coinvolgenti. Dalle Romanze sefardite alle Cantigas de Santa Maria, fino alla Musica Al-Ala andalusa, in perfetta sintonia con l'incontro di culture, religioni e popoli, che da secoli caratterizza la storia del "Mare di mezzo".
